Topic: Windshild Trim

Was stainless windshield trim an option in 1947. I have seen some of the 1946 1947 or 1948 cars with the stainless trim. Restoring a 1947 Super Deluxe Coupe and it currently does not have the stainless trim. I have the 1941-1948 Ford Book and on page 3-18 and 3-19 it talks about windshield trim but in the second paragraph on page 3-19 I could not tell if they were talking about the stainless or the welt they call trim in the previous paragraph.

My late post-April edition '47 Super Delux coupe has SS trim on the exterior of the windshield and some of the exterior side window parts. Some parts on the side/vent windows are plated. The side/fender trim on the body, (door handles?), running-board trim, some of the grille, and trim rings around the lights are also SS.

Thank you for your reply. Does your 1947 Have the 1946 style trim? They started calling the 1946 cars 1947 in mid February without any changes I think and some time later started making the changes to the 1947 specs. If yours was made in April it might still have the 1946 trim. My frame number is 799A1642693. It has mostly 1947 parts but has the black and red gauges and the quarter windows have stainless trim the whole way around which I think is 1946 parts.

My 48 Super Deluxe has the stainless trim.

If I remember right, the Early Ford V8 Club Book shows three types of side trim. My late '47 has the plain rounded SS side trim. I have the latter '47-48 gauges with the checkered background and gold trim. Many early '47s retained the '46 rectangular front parking lights. Those changed to the smaller round one's under the headlights around April '47. Also, the horizontal trim bar with Ford script on the trunk lid is mounted higher above the license plate holder than the earlier edition. The '47 can really be a mixed bag of variations.

I believe that all 42-48 Super Deluxe cars had stainless in the rubber molding around the windshield.
