Im about to begin sandblasting some wheels from my 36. I was going to just use rattle cans of primer to keep them from rusting and then take to paint shop. Some say no, but I dont understad that. Will I have a problem priming with cans??????

The problem with spray cans is the primer is porous. Spray cans lack in quality. I know most spray cans say top coat with enamel or laquer either one. Sure Mac. I would blast the wheels, store them inside in a dry place. If you take them to the body shop within a few days there will be no problem. Request a good epoxy primer such as PPG DP90 or equivalent. I just don't like spray cans unless top coating with the same. Possible incapatibility problems.

An alternative to painting is to have them powder coated. It's a good solution and the powder coat is very chip resistant.

Most professionals will use an epoxy primer on bare metal. Do not use a rattle can primer as the paint shop will need to remove it. Simply use a good metal wash (Eastwood has a nice one) after media blasting. They are a mild etching solution and you can go for weeks without flash rust.

its best to use metal eatching primmer first then scuff the wheels and use a primer with a hardner in it
