Topic: '39 Ford Color - cover EFV8 2014 Roster of Members

len47merc    -- 02-21-2016 @ 9:34 AM
All my documentation and resource library materials are specific to '42-'48. Can anyone please advise what the correct color reference and code are for the '39 Ford with the California World's Fair license tag on the cover of the 2014 EFV8 Roster of Members? And from personal experience/observations can anyone advise whether that photo an accurate depiction of that color shade and hue? Thanks -

Steve

Although I can't give you the color code, but I can't attest to the fact that that the car depicted is correct in ALL respects. The owner is a personal friend of mine and I watched him restore that car from start to finish. I was with him when he purchased it. If recall correctly, the restoration was over a five year span. The car easily took a EFV8 Club Dearborn Award but was deducted 10 points for over restoration....

You'll find reference to the cover photo and the owner of the car on page 3 of the roster....

Here is a color code chart for 1939 Fords > http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?manuf=Ford&year=1939&con=my&gncl=green&rows=50

Thanks MG - I've looked at many of these charts but my monitor and two others here in the home do not render the colors consistently with the photo on the cover of the 2014 Roster of Members. This is why I asked for the specific color code and/or name and also whether the cover photo is an accurate depiction of the actual color or not. I am sure the car is immaculate - no question about that on my part. The question is whether the picture on the Roster cover is an accurate, true, very close representation of the actual color. Need to know for a project being worked currently. Thanks to anyone who can help and to you again MG for responding.

Yes, "the picture on the Roster cover is an accurate, true, very close representation of the actual color."

I'll talk to Tom and get back you with the color code and the brand of paint he used.

  Steve,

I talked with Tom and he told me the color of his '39 is Ford 'Cloud Mist Gray' - Ford Code Number M1787. He used Ditzler PPG Acrylic Lacquer. Paint codes from both Ditzer and Dupont for this color can be found at this site > http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?wtcode=M1787&rows=50&syear=1939&smanuf=Ford&smodel=&sname=Cloud%20Mist%20Gray

Tom had the car painted to match its original color which was Cloud Mist Gray. His painter took a body part sample that was protected from the sun and elements to the paint store and they matched the color there.

I hope this helps you....MG

Sincere thanks MG for the quick turnaround. You will note the significant difference in the color of the car on the cover of the 'Roster' versus the shade and hue of that represented on the referenced paintref.com, hence my difficulty in ensuring visually what was correct.

Thanks again MG - really appreciate your help!

Steve

Glad to help you out, Steve....

BTW - The picture on the Roster Cover was taken in the bright sunlight at Lake Tahoe during the EFV8 Club 50th Anniversary event held there....
