Topic: Wiring problem

Just finished completely wiring my '36 using a number of kits from C & G and when I connected the battery I had a problem. The headlights work as they should, the parking light works, the horn works, but not the taillight. When the switch is in the off position the taillight is on and the brake light doesn't work in any position. New brake switch installed. I suspect it has to do with the connector at the bottom of the steering column. Thanks for any and all help.

It's definitely in the switch at the bottom of the column. Make sure the bakelite contact plate is correctly placed into the lower cup of the switch. Then align the fork on the end of the horn rod to go into the slots of the rotating contact assembly. Then double check all your wiring to make sure everything is correctly connected. I'm sure the problem is misalignment in the contact switch.

if the contact plate is correctly placed, try switching the brake and taillight connections at the bottom of the steering column.

Thanks for the suggestions. But, isn't there only one way for the contact plate to align with the fork on the end of the horn rod? I'm thinking that if everything else works as it should there has to be a different issue. In addition, there is no way to switch the taillight and brake light wires at that point without cutting the wires and switching them. It is possible to switch the wires where they connect to the taillight wiring at the rear of the car. I will double check all the connections and go from there. It's pretty easy to connect things correctly as the wires are color coded.
