Topic: Filling 36 trans

Bob Watts    -- 01-12-2016 @ 4:23 PM
In the process of renewing the fluids for the first time and I'm curious what the best way to fill the trans is.
I've searched high and low and can't seem to find anything on the subject. I don't see the fill hole access underneath but in some pictures I've looked at it appears to be up on the right side. Do I pump it from the top removing the floorboard access plate? It's pretty skinny underneath but if putting it on jack stands is the way I'm ok with that too
Thanks!

I have some one lay on a cardboard watching the right side of tranny at the fill hole and remove the shift lever and fill through the top (don't loose the pin). When helper sees it coming out the side hole its full he inserts the plug quickly. OMO.

Remove the fill plug. Use a hand pump to fill un till the fluid attains the level of the fill plug. Yes, jack stands make the job easier, and never climb under a car supported by a jack.

Bob. Use smaller plastic bottles with funnel caps. Fill till runs out and plug. Worked for me since 1949. (nice car)

Thanks guys! And rest assured the car will be seriously blocked and supported if it's goes in the air!
Neil, good to hear from a fellow Watts. My Dad was involved in the genealogy of our family and they have quite the clan along with yearly gatherings in Searcy County Arkansas. His Dad beat it out of there in the 1920's for Los Angeles where we've lived ever since.
