Anyone know what the thread and size of the opening where the water temp probe is scr*w*d into the water pump? Thanks..

it's 3/8" pipe thread. a 5/8 bolt with 18 thread count will fit, but it isn't tapered. see line 4, columns 2, 3 and 4 in this chart. http://www.fairburyfastener.com/xdims_pipe_threads.htm also, I put in a Wells, SW508 temperature sensitive switch with metric threads, M16 x 1.5 . you can see it by searching for sw508 on this page http://www.wellsve.com/parts

For the 35-36 water pump they are 5/8-18 this is a straight thread and not tapered pipe.

Look into the hole and you will find a seat for the brass temperature probe. clean the seat, so the probe can sit on it and seal any water leak when the nut is tightened. Suggest you use a line wrench to tighten the nut. If the seat has voids or is cracked or broken there is no way to maintain a leak free seal. there is no need for any sealing product, but you may want to put a small amount of never-seize on the nut thread.

I avoid the Teflon tape on anything automotive. I prefer the Teflon paste on threads and it is also a sealer.

I have found that a unit that has not been apart for a while the nut will try to turn the tube with it I solved this problem by taking the w.p. loose from head then turning the pump off the nut this will not twist the capilary tube.works for me Cliff. with reguards Cliff. Tipton
