Topic: 1950 Deluxe Clock Delete

rick50    -- 12-07-2015 @ 3:47 PM
Is the clock delete for a 1950 Deluxe painted the same brown color as the instrument panel? Also, were all of the Deluxe models from 1949,50 and 51 painted the same shade of brown or beige? I have a Deluxe with a clock. I'm pretty sure it was added at a later date to dress the car up. There is a NOS clock delete on eBay now and I was wondering if it was correct for my car. The paint appears to have too much metal flake compared to my mint. unfaded original instrument panel but the difference in color may be a result of the camera used. I really do not know what an original 1950 Deluxe clock delete looks like. Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming that a clock delete for a 1950 Deluxe is painted. I've never actually seen one. I've looked at pictures on the internet and every one of the cars has a clock. A member sent me a picture of this delete plate. Does anybody know if this style delete was used in a Deluxe? I assumed it was used in a Custom Deluxe because it has the same stylized automobile that is on the trim panel. Can anyone tell me what belongs in a Deluxe? Thanks.

The clock was standard in the Custom Deluxe.

I would check with the V-8 Club's 1949-1951 Adviser about this. As you have found out there are few Deluxe cars restored and a lot of them had the clock.

Thanks. If the clock was standard in a Custom Deluxe the delete plate pictured on the red background in the above post is what I should be looking for.

  Here's a 1949 and 1950 Meteor clock delete emblem.........

I've answered your private email as best I can, Rick.

Tom O has mentioned contacting the EFV8 Club Advisor. That's an excellent suggestion.

For 1949-1951 Ford, that would be Cecil Goff in Florida. His contact information appears on page 95 of the November December 2015 V8 Times.

As a matter of interest for you and other members, a 1949 and 1950 Mercury Meteor clock delete emblem appears in the photo above this response. It is identical in size to the 1949 and 1950 Ford clock delete emblems, and was made to fit into a 1949 or 1950 Ford dashboard. Meteors were manufactured by Ford of Canada with a Ford body, but were sold by Canadian Mercury dealers so that they had the benefit of being able to market a lower-priced passenger car rather than being restricted to selling only the more expensive "real" Mercury.
