I think I can remember guys discussing problems they were having with mechanical brakes and dropped axles on their Model A based speedsters. Try looking/asking on fordbarn.com and HAMB (http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/). Charlie Stephens

I tried it in 1950 and went to hydraulic brakes due to the cost of the custom parts needed. Tom

A very difficult task. The axle changes all the geometry of the linkage for the mechanical brakes. It might be possible to do it, but you need a "fat wallet" to pay for all the needed modifications.
