I am reading that 600w oil is recommended for trans and rear differential. I have a surplus of 80w90. Is anyone running oil that thin?

The 80w90 should work well in your transmission, 600w is too thick to get into the needle bearings properly and all the nooks and crannies. As for the rear end. most people prefer to use 140w. The 80w90 will work, but you might get get some leakage, if it works through the grease in the hub bearings. In any case, keep the oil level about 3/4" below the fill plug.
