  As trjford8 said in your other post, the part on the left of both of your pictures is the resistor and is the same in both pictures.

  I know the location and the function of the resister on the unit. My question is - does the unit pictured hanging under the dash ready for installation - perform the same function as the original unit - or is it something entirely different? If it performs the same function, is the difference in design simply an improvement over my original unit?

  It looks to be the same. In your first picture one lead is the power lead and feeds two circuit breakers with the output leads being separate. in your second (this) picture, trying to see through the cover it looks like the center lead feeds both circuit breakers and the other two leads are the outputs.

  Thanks for the input. Because the new unit has no metal cage, and appears different in design, I was not sure it served the same purpose and was OK to install.
