Topic: 1940 Ford Convertible

I am new to the forum. I just bought a 1940 convertible, and there are no ash trays in the dash. It is in rough but solid shape and has not been in operation since 1965. It feels like there are provisions for ash trays behind the dash in the correct locations, and I see no evidence that the dash has been welded up to eliminate them. Did they make a Deluxe convertible that did not have them. Thanks. Ron.

All of the 1940 cars had the two ash trays. There are two slightly different styles of doors for the ash trays. The early style has a door that opens from the bottom, push inward, and then raise the door. The later style opens from the top and pull the knob outward. The attachment hardware on each style (under the dash) varies.

Both styles can often be found on eBay.
