I would like to remove my 36 steering wheel,
but, by drilling 2 holes, then tapping them.
Does the hub have metal in it ? Hal

No metal!! try soaking with penitraitng oil the nut and hub. Then back off nut till just above the top of shaft, put your knees under the hub as much as you can and pull up on the wheel. Sometimes you don't need a puller it will pop off. It did on my 36.Worth a try !! ken ct.

  Thanks Ken Ct.
I will try that, after soaking it

Also can try hitting the nut lightly with a plastic head hammer. ken ct.

Hal, there are steering wheel pullers that mount under the hub using protective padding and push against the top of the shaft. The top of the shaft must be protected when doing this. I back the nut off until it is flush with top of shaft. Then place a small piece of metal ~ 1"x 1" x 1/8" thk on top of nut for the puller to push against.
I made a steering wheel puller that works like the one I described above and it works very well. Some of these steering wheels are very tight on the tapered part of the shaft.
You must use care and patience when removing these steering wheels or you will mess up the wheel or the threaded end of shaft.

You might contact Mac VanPelt, http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_home.htm, and see if he rents the correct steering wheel puller. I know he rents the KR Wilson rear hub puller and if he doesn't currently rent the steering wheel puller he might want to add it the the tools he rents.
