Does anybody have any leads on where you can get mechanical brake parts. I am trying to keep my 37 ford as original as possible

The usual suspects don't have them, but NOS cables can be had from some of the smaller antique Ford places. I found mine off of Hemmings. C&G has floaters, which I highly recommend.

Or Southside Obsolete 507-332-6789

Thanks for the lead. I want to be sure that if I take the brakes apart AND one of the springs break that I can get a replacement

Thanks for the lead. How do floaters work? I have seen them listed but don't know how they work.

  Floaters:
Remove the dust cover
Screw out the adjuster/wedge
Insert the floater
Replace the dust cover

Changes the method of adjustment, and the method of shoe float. The wedge is supposed to float, but the pressure against the float surface prevents movement, so that when brakes are applied, the wedge finds a random location and won't move off it. This is the Lockheed type of brake adjuster. The Bendix type is an internal star adjuster, operated by a brake spoon, that expands or contracts a full floating con rod between the two shoes. Ford didn't begin to use the Bendix until 1949.

Continuing... The original brake springs are used on the bottom, and a single 1939 Ford brake spring is used on the top.
The original adjuster can be cut with a cutoff wheel, then scr*w*d into the rear of the backing plate in order to both conceal the fact of the floater, and to provide a rear dust cover.

I bought most of the running gear including complete front and rear axles that were removed from a restored original 37 coupe. I still have all the mechanical brake componets including the cables. Send me a message if you find that you need any parts.
