Topic: Mechanical/Electrical HELP needed

baceves    -- 08-12-2015 @ 4:34 PM
  Hi All.

I have been a new member for a few months now. This may sound silly but can anyone suggest or refer me to a good mechanic that works on old Fords.

I live in Southern California and have a 1947 Ford Super Deluxe.

The car had been running fine up until my buddy talked me into converting the electrical to 12 volt. Now we are at a dead end and can't figure out why it's not starting. I figure someone that specializes in this will be our best option.

Many Thanks. Brian

Is Southern California San Diego, Bakersfield or some place in between? You would have saved MG a lot of work (thanks MG) if you had narrowed it down.

The moral of the story: If you have an original car and the it does fine on 6 volts, there is little or nothing to be gained by changing to 12 volts.

as others have said, Southern California is a big area. A more specific location would be very helpful.

Wow! We are very close (I am in Alhambra) and would like to find a place like you describe as well. There is a mechanic/garage on Main St/Las Tunas that always has older vehicles in it or in front of it, but I have not gone in yet. Next time I drive by, I will get the name of it.

What year do you have? Is your car running.

1940 Deluxe Fordor. Yes, it is now running (after a six week stint that included brakes, tank, fuel line, water pumps, hoses, etc.).

Drove it around the block a couple of days ago for the first time in years. It is a bit rough right now, but I am determined to get it in good shape again.
