I have a short somewhere on my 35 Ford what is the best way to locate where the short is ? When I turn the key on all the wires get hot.

The key is only mechanical and does nothing to the electrical system. It allows the ignition switch to be placed in the "ON" position. Do you have an original 35 with 6V system and original ignition coil and distributor? Does your car blow the fuse? Do you have the original light system with the light switch around the horn button?

I assume you are talking about the off-on switch and your electrical system is original. This rules out the lighting system and the horn. The short must be in the ignition, the instruments, or some accessory that has been added.
follow every wire that is powered from the switch Jiggle every wire that goes through the firewall and/or is held by a metal clamp or is touching metal and you should be able to find it.

Make a test light of a bulb with spring clips on the leads. Connect this device by unhooking each wire and clipping the device between the wire and the "hot side" of the battery. If you are testing a lamp, remove the bulb. The test light will light when it finds a ground in that circuit, but won't blow the bulb, fuse, or burn the wiring. When you find the offending circuit, check the length until the test light goes out. That will indicate the short has been found. Cheap to make, and works very well.
