Did 1934 Fords have any material (jute) between the floor mat and the floor? Also between the rumble mat and the floor?

I believe that the floor mats in my '34 roadster are original. There is no padding but the mats are about 3/16 inch thick (and now quite brittle). I bought a new front mat from Mac's about 4 years ago and it was real thin and came folded instead of rolled in a tube. I couldn't get the folds out of it (laid it out in the hot Texas sun)and as I had already installed the piece over the gear shift area I didn't feel I could return it. I hung the mat on a wall and just checked on it the other day. The mat has long splits where the folds were. I still have the original mats in the car.

I have the original floor mat for my '34 5 window coupe but it's in poor condition... big chunk missing. It came with the car as someone had replaced it with carpet. I got a new reproduction floor mat and rumble mat from Dennis Carpenter and they are very nice. They look like my original mat. They are delivered rolled up in a box. Some of Carpenter's floor mats come with jute padding but not for the 1934. That's why I'm asking if 1934's originally had some sort of padding or not.

Yes, they had jute-like backing and it was a major contributor to rusted out floors as it held moisture and covered by rubber it did not dry out readily. The moisture was likely introduced around the pedals and on the sides of the mat from snow on driver's shoes.

The center section over the transmission shift lever housing evidently came without backing judging from the two NOS mats I have.
