Topic: Shock Absorbers-No one makes repro's?

RAK402    -- 07-19-2015 @ 2:45 PM
Does anyone make reproduction shock absorbers (stock) for 1940 Fords? I have been looking through cataloges and you can buy the links, but not the shocks.

I don't want to put modern shocks on my car.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you all in advance!

The original shocks can still be obtained. Ebay is a great source - I see them listed on there with decent frequency. However, if you are looking for concourse correct shocks, not simply lever shocks (service replacement) shocks that will fit and function, I suggest you are careful. Most guys listing '40 Ford shocks don't know correct from incorrect.

If you have the original shocks on the vehicle, look at having them rebuilt. Check you V8 times for vendors.

I just had shocks rebuilt for my '36 and '46 and I thought they were in pretty good shape to start with yet they were extremely expensive to have redone and after months of waiting they have been returned, am in Canada and have to pick them up from my NY fellow V8 club member. Will try to remember to let you know when Ive got them installed and how they are

Thank you all for your replies!

I think the shock absorbers are stock and original on my car. I have never been able to even get the links off (the rubber is completely shot in the links).

I would really like to have everything (shock/links) new or rebuilt.

Thank you all again!
