The drivers side door on my 46 coupe closes with a click, if you just release it from wide open. Gaps around the entire door are perfect. I usually drive with the window down and my arm resting on the window sill. When I hit a small bump, I can feel and hear the door jump up and down about one half inch. Should I try some sort of adjustment at the latch - or leave well enough alone.

Sounds like the female part of the dovetail may need to be rebuilt. You can buy a kit to replace the springs and the strikers in the dovetail. Also make sure all the rubber bumpers are in place.
