Topic: 47 hood attachment

Does anyone have a photo that shows how the hood hinge attaches to the cowl on a 47 Ford?
Should there be rubber grommets for the two attachment points on the cowl?

Ross, there are three attachment points for the hood on each side of the car. Two go thru the seam that attaches the firewall to the body. The third goes thru the side of the body and the nut tightens from the inside of the car. The bolt that goes into the car, has a rubber seal and fender washer inside the car, under the nut, to prevent any water getting in the car. There is an excellent article in the May/June, 2009 issue of the V-8 Times that covers the aligning of the '41 thru '48 hood. Hope this helps you.

As woodie says definitely see the article in the V-8 Times. This will explain the procedure second only to seeing this done in person. Sure helped me.

ross49 - wooddiewagon46 is on the mark on the rubber grommets and his overall description. While I agree with the recommendation to read the article, I will try to take a couple of pics tomorrow of my '47's hood attachments to the cowl and post them for you unless another member posts ahead of me.

ross49 - not the best pics but hopefully this one and the one to follow will give you the idea. The new fasteners are from Roy Nacewicz btw. Let me know if I can help you further on this - I've had the hood off a couple of times and will be glad to share lessons learned.

The button-cap bolt on the back of the bracket is the bolt with the rubber washer/grommet on the inside of the car under the dash. This bolt has a square shoulder under the cap that fits into a square receptacle on the hood hinge bracket that keeps the bolt from turning when tightening.

Sorry for the double post - have no idea why this happens sometimes.
