Topic: 1951 convertible robe rail?

Grant    -- 04-11-2015 @ 5:42 AM
On the back of each half of the front seat in our '51 Ford convertible, at the top, there is what I call "robe rail". Maybe that's not the correct name. They are about 3/4 of an inch in diameter, and mount in place with chrome escutcheons at each end.

Both are droopy and frayed, look ratty, and need to be replaced.

I suspect that something similar may have been used on the 1949 and 1950 convertibles, but don't know for sure.

Has anyone purchased these during the restoration of their car? If so, who would be a trustworthy supplier of quality robe rail?

Lebaron Bonney has been a quality supplier of Ford upholstery items for many years. Contact them to see if they can match the original covering on your robe rail.

I called Lebaron Bonney at 1-800-221-5408 and spoke to a very helpful gentleman named David yesterday. He says:

1. robe rail is available in four colors at $1.85 per inch, plus shipping.

2. a free information kit including fabric samples is available to all customers (he's mailing one to us today)

3. anyone who calls them with such a request and quotes promotion code HC03 will get a free Lebaron Bonney hat included in the information kit.

(That promotion code appears on page 22B of the April 6th Old Autos issue)
