Topic: Dash Cam

I've decided to invest in a Dash Camera to use when driving my '34. I don't know much about them and would appreciate any recommendations from those of you who are using them - Brand and Model please. I'm especially concerned about the cameras battery life - this given the 6 volt system in my car, I won't be able to charge it while driving. I want to be able to send videos via email to friends and family so they too can experience the joys of driving these old Ford's. Audio quality of the camera is very important as well.

Can you post videos you have on this forum???

I think a dash camera would be fun for something like the Glidden Tour or Great Race footage for arriving in towns and parking areas. The continual run footage is reminiscent of the Russian dash cams accident footage.
For good action films of old car activities, a hand held unit that you could place in a dash or sun visor mount temporarily might be a better choice. You could continue your event coverage when you get out of the car like TonyM did above.
If the camera is for defense purposes, I would guess it can also be used against you.

1934 Ford's since 1972

Is anyone able to answer the original question ?

  42merc,

Apparently, none of these guys use a dash cam. I'd like to know how TonyM, who posted his video here, mounted his hand-held camera while driving....

You might try the Ford Barn for an answer.
It may not be the correct answer, but at least they will talk to you.

42merc, are you saying bad advice is better than none? That is the way that I read your last response.

MG's response was probably right on the button, nobody but Tony is using one.

If I were going to buy and use one, I would do some research on line by Goggling "dash cam reviews". Then I would search for a forum on cameras and see if I could find any that talked about dash cams and ask questions there.

MG, if you find any good answers or good sites that talk about them, it would be an interesting subject on here and in the V-8 Times.

Tom

I don't use a dash cam. I held the camera the whole time.

I use a GoPro on my atv and cars. Got it at Best Buy.Cost about 300 to 400 dollars. Uses digital media cards up to about 3 hours recording.
