Anyone every gutted a 6 volt battery and using the case install another battery inside the empty case. I have a perfect looking 15 yr old Ford script battery, and thinking of gutting it and using the case putting an Optima battery inside the empty case, dimension wise it looks like it will fit.

It is a simple but messy job.

Wash out the battery with a baking soda solution. Flush it several times.

Remove the cell connecting bars and the cells from the top of the case.

Wash the case again with a soda solution.

Break out the cell dividers.

Measure the height of the Optima and use an end mill in a drill press to mill out the standoffs at the bottom of the case to a uniform height.

Make 3 pieces of 1/4" plastic to look like the cell covers and glue them to a larger piece of plastic that fits in the case.

Assemble the parts and install the battery.

If you are using a 39 or older battery, you will probably have to remove the bottom of the old case and modify your battery holder to accept the taller Optima battery.
