I'd like to have my 37 painted this spring. I live in central NY
Any suggestions on who might do it?
It's a driver w/o rust
Thanks, Lenny

  Lenny,
The painting part can be done by any good auto painter, but the preparation is what gives you the quality paint job.
The more you take it apart the better paint job you'll get. Example: Fenders off, get better paint coverage than on the car. Same goes for hood, trim, lights windows, bumpers runnning boards etc should all come off. The more the painter can get around the item being painted the better coverage you'll get.
Taking all that stuff off gets expensive, but it will give you best results whether you do the work or have it disassembled. Then the next big thing is the sanding and preparaton for the paint. The smoother the surface, the better the paint job.
I have seen some cars painted while partially asssembled that came out well, be again the crew doing the prepartion and taping make the difference.

Contact the Western New York Regional Group for possible recommendations. They will be more familiar with the body shops and restoration shops in Central New York.

Make sure that you and the painter are on the same page as to the amount and quality of the work that you want performed. It can run from just power washing the car and then painting it, to complete dis-assembly, stripping all of the paint, making any needed repairs, priming, sanding, painting, color sanding and assembling the car. The cost can run from $1,000 to $25,000 and more, depending on the work involved.

Talk to the people in a local car club or even call a V-8 club member in your area. You can go to a local car show and if you see something you like ask the owner who painted your car. You also have to decide what type of job you are looking for. There will be a big difference between a "nice driver" paint job and one that is show quality.
