Topic: Painting Fender Welting

What preparations are needed to paint the fender welting on a 1948 Tudor? Do you just prime it like the rest of the body?

I bought my welt from Roy Nacewicz and just cleaned it with a wax remover before spraying it. The painted welting is used on the dash in my car, so it is not exposed to the elements.

Got mine from Roy, too. I've been told just to prime it like the rest of the car. Just wasn't sure...

rdove, I can assure you that properly prepared welting can be painted with good results. I use a small amount of flex agent in the paint, similar to what is used on modern vehicular bumpers, etc.
Prepare the welting as you would anything else, scuff, clean, prime, etc.

I might suggest you have each piece cut to size and proper fit to lesson the amount of handling once painted.

  Check out:

www.fordscript.com

and cruise around the site. Roy has significant knowledge and great products and is widely connected in the EFV8 community. Great resource referred to me by TomO quite some time back.
