Topic: 1935-36 Headliner/Header/Tack Strips

Does anyone have a photo of the header and tack strips installed, without the headliner, on a 1935-36 closed car? I believe that I am working with a 1935 header, without the radio speaker area punched out. I am trying to establish the relationship of the tack strips and header. Are there any spacers behind the tack strips? What are the 4 oval holes at the top of the header for? Thank you.

The header covers the tack strip. Here are photos of the 35 header. The oval holes on top are mounting holes. I have also included some photos from the internet showing the (2) piece tack strip installed above the window opening (please ignore the later addition of an electric wiper motor where the 35/36 speaker cavity should be)

In addition to Don's great photos, the original tack strip material was treated cardboard. By now that stuff has deteriorated to a point where it's not useable. You can replace it with thin strips of plywood or you can buy some rubber tack strip material supplied by Drake or other vendors that will replace the old strip. I use pop rivets to secure the new strip material to the metal.

Don and tjford8, thank you for the quick response and photos. I have the header and the two-piece tack strip, as pictured. When the tack strip is correctly mounted, does the top edge of the header panel line up with the the top edge of the tack strip? If so, are the four oval holes used to fasten the header to the tack strip after the headliner is installed?

Its been a while since I had a sedan apart and I don't recall. Try putting the header in place and see where the holes line up. Also try looking for the mounting holes for the tack strip.
