How did Ford determine the thickness for the rear axle bells? I can't believe that Ford assembled them and then took measurements and then played with gasket sizes to get the right setting. Did they just use an average size? Are we just blue printing the axles for best life?

I don't built that many axles,but I made a few tools and fixtures to make it easier to do, But if I was doing 100 a day I sure would get it down pat and also having all new stuff and a pile of gaskets on hand it would be much quicker and easier. By the way,I set my carrier bearing preload before I put the axles ,pinion or spider gears in. Lawrie
