Topic: Transmission Removal Problem

I have hit a snag in the process of removing the transmission in my 1939 Deluxe Tudor. I have been following the procedure provided by Kubes et. al. in the posting "Transmission Removal 39 Deluxe Tudor" from 17 June of last year and so far it has worked very well. I have pulled the transmission back from the bell housing about 1-1/2 inches but it won't go any further. The back of the transmission is hitting the riveted-in frame member which supports it (frame piece number 5059). Pulling up the rear of the transmission as much as I can, there is still about 1/4 inch interference between the bottom of the case and the frame member. The input shaft is still engaged in the clutch hub. Numbers match on this car, so I don't think there have been any unusual swap-outs. Any ideas or suggestions on how to proceed further?

Thanks

Larry

Did you jack up the back of the engine?

For my 1937 Ford I had to remove the fan and generator, upper radiator hoses, and the choke and throttle linkage and then gently jack up the rear of the engine so that the trans is sticking up into the passenger compartment. Only then could I muscle out that trans.

  TonyM

That was the problem. I raised it slightly but not enough. The transmission is now out of the car. Thanks for the response.
