Topic: 39 Standard temp gauge.

Hi guys. My temp gauge is not working. .It has not worked since I bought the car. A new reproduction gauge is close to $200. I know that the old one can be refilled , but I would rather just change it. Does anyone know if there is an electric replacement available that fits into the original cluster weather 6v or 12v ? I would like to stay original but I feel that the liquid filled gauges have a short lifespan ,especially for that price. Thanks....

Gary, I've never seen or heard of a reproduction temperature gage for a
'39 Ford. The originals are still around, and will be around for many years to come if treated right. Yes, they are expensive, as is everything related to our hobby.

  Gary,

Give Baxter Ford in KS a call to see if he can help you with your gauge.

(785) 842-9256

I have never seen an electric temperature gauge that reads vertical like the 39 temperature gauge. If you are not willing to spend the money to have your gauge repaired, you will probably be stuck with an aftermarket gauge hung under the dash.

I know that if I try to repair the gauge myself, it will not work properly. Is there anyone out there that does this type of repair ?

Baxter Ford in KS repairs them. They are very pleasant people to deal with and may have a reconditioned unit ready for you.

Call Bruce at Bob's Speedometer. Several on this forum recommend Bob's, and they restored my gauges on my '37.

Bruce said he is one of 6 shops left still doing gauge restoration.
