Topic: Rear main bearing oil seal

I had a 35 engine that the rear main aluminum oil slinger had two slingers on it instead of one. It worked great for not losing much oil out the rear seal. Problem is, I'm rebuilding another 35 engine and would like to find a slinger with two. The one that's in the engine has one slinger. Anyone know of a source.

The slinger type rear main seal works fairly well as long as the oil pan isn't overfilled. Without a filter, the correct amount is four quarts. There is a baffle type seal available for later cars, but I don't see one for '35. If your rear main cap has a drain pipe, be sure it is clear. Henry Ford wasn't enamored with seals or filters. There is an old (and true) saying about old Fords: "If it ain't leakin', it probably needs fixin'". That is why most of us have garage floors covered with cardboard!

If I recall correctly the slinger slinger was fixed to the crankshaft and the alumionum housings were replaceable. The dual slinger cankshaft was used on engines that were to be used in trucks. As truck engines were run to the end of life and then scr*pped for a later rebuild, I doubt that you will find a survivor. There may be some aluminum block pieces left in places like Joblot in NY and Little Dearborn in MN.
