Topic: 1937 -68-10000- A Generator Pulley and Fan

Have the above generator sparingly used in 1937 pass. assembly lines with small chip off pulley - acquired with no fan. Pulley seems unique to this gen. as correct pulley for usual gen. [40-10000-B] won't fit the 68- gen.; and a correct fan for the 40- gen. does not mount to the 68- pulley but does mount to my extra correct [part # stamped 78-] regular 40- gen pulley. Was the 68- gen. supplied with a different pulley and fan than the 68- gen. and if so where can I acquire the parts I need?
This 68- gen. mounts fine to '37 intake.

This shows another view of the 68- gen.

I believe your photos are of a special high output generator and not the standard 68-10000. The standard generators for the early V8 does not have a case that bulges out, like the one you have pictured. If you want to replace the pulley on the special generator look through the Chassis parts books to find the proper number or the broken pulley may have the part number cast into the front.

I can see no difference between the gen. I picture and that shown in the 1937 Ford Book on page 5-12. That Book also states that the bulging 68- gen. was utilized in assembly in about 10% or less of 1937 model production. I am, as you suggest, looking thru my original lit. to see if that will help me. Actually, since the hub of my correct fan does fit nicely on the 68- gen. pulley, the bolt hole that is slightly out of alignment may be a non-issue - just expand the fan hole about 3/32 in. so mounting bolt fits. Fan is still centered = no vibration.

You are correct, only used on 10% of production! So under the photo is the pulley 68-10130-A. The 38-39-40 Chassis parts book from Feb. 20, 1940 list 68-10130-A and shows a picture. It list this pulley for the 68-10000-A generator and shows the diameter as 4.38". It also list the pulley as replaced by 68-10130-C used in 68-10000-HA, 78-10000-HA or -HC. You may want to contact Southside Obsolete and see if Fred has one of either of the two pulleys, or contact Job Lot.
