Top of frame rail,usually close to the steering box , scr*pe and wire brush the area you will find it. ken ct.

Be very careful how you scr*pe and wire brush the frame. The numbers may be very faint and easily obliterated. On my 42 the number is just outboard of the front cross member. If the transmission has not been changed the number is on the top of the transmission housing just above the little inspection door.

I have found in looking at 41-48 cars the ID or chassis number is close to the front crossmember.
