Topic: 33 engine rebuild

New to the V8 and tearing down an early '33 engine... noted there are no retaining clips to hold in the valve assemblies. Questions are; Can I use the new valve assemblies that are held in with a retainer clip and are loaded top down? Which valve types are the best, mushroom headed original type or straight more modern types? Best sources for the valve assemblies? I'm Located in Ontario, Canada, so everything is a shipment, unless someone knows of a close supplier?
Thanks in advance from all the experts here.
Cheers

The valves are the same . The guide - spring stuff is all you need to change . Yes the 34-up stuff works fine . This is common stuff and Fred at Southside Obsolete in Fairbault MN probably has all you need NOS . Ph # is 507-332-6789 .

The straight type valves and guides control oil consumption better, but are more prone to sticking than the mushroom stems with the split guides. IMHO there is not enough difference between them to pay a premium for either style.

Yesteryear Ford Parts is in Livonia, MI and there are several vendors in New York State, if you would like to try a trip across the border.
