Mac's auto parts sells 600W oil in their catalog and lists it for 32-48 transmissions and rear ends. I have always used SAE 140 in my '48 with good results. Unless you have a leaker, is there any reason to use this heavy stuff in our V8s? I use it in the steering box, and in my model A, but that's all.

No . This is another subject that has many mis-guided opinions about it as you will see here . This was just covered AGAIN on Fordbarn by folks more knowledgeable than me .

600 weight "oil" was used to contain leakage in Model A'sand T's, and should not be used in later cars. It is actually a thin asphalt solution with no high pressure additives necessary for later gear boxes and rear ends. I don.'t know why it is sold today.
