Topic: identifying flatheads in the '30's

I have been asked how to tell the differences in flathead engines from the thirties; specifically how to identify a '35 from a '37 or later, is a '36 the same as a '35, do all 85 hp engines appear the same on the outside, where are the serial numbers, what are the various identifiers, ie an 8BA or a 59A or 21 stud and so on. I ran out of answers!!! Next time I'm asked I'd like to be better prepared with correct answers. Tks in advance.
