Topic: 1937 hood hinge support springs?

  Hello,
This is my first post. I have a 1937 Ford Sedan Delivery and am just beginning restoration.

Aside from the hood hinges, are there supposed to be some support arm brackets (spring loaded) to keep the hood open? The attached picture is what I found in an old bucket of 37 parts, it is shown dangling from a small bungee cord. But there is no way to mount it as is. Perhaps it is the wrong part? Perhaps there are some additional parts that go along with it?

If there are no supports, how does the hood stay open when it is lifted up?

Thanks,
Gregg

I believe the hood support in your photo is later than 37 maybe 39-40. The 37 hood is supported by ONE special hood support 78-16780. It locks in the up position and has to be released to lower the hood. It attaches to the one hole (with special hardware) in the crimped area of where the firewall and cowl side panel meet and to the bracket on the hood side with one special hardware.

hood prop rod shown below. I am not sure if the hood hinges you show are correct for 37. I believe they should have a tab with a mounting screw for the hood side panel. This is how the upper rear support for the side panel is done.

Thank you so much. This gives me something to go on.
The guy I bought my 37 from was known to improvise if necessary. Totally would not surprise me if the hinges are incorrect also.

If anyone has a pic of the stock hinges and support actually installed that would be of great help.

Here's a picture of the hood hinge and support rod.

That is the best side view shot I have seen. Clearly shows where the support mechanism attaches. Nice 37 by the way, totally stock.
