Topic: clutch shaft fork pin

MICHV8    -- 11-27-2014 @ 7:10 AM
Is the pin that secures the fork on the clutch release shaft peened? I'm having trouble getting it out. This one is "dimpled" on end. Is heating the solution or soaking with penetrating solution? Grinding?
Thanks!

The only way I could remove the pin is to take a cutoff wheel and cut off the end that was peened and then drive out the pin Of course this only worked with top loaders. I could only either cut off the shaft or cut the fork in half for the side shifters as I could not get at the bottom of the pin.

Grind or cut off the head and drill it out. I'd suggest center punching prior to drilling and drilling STRAIGHT. I have done this more times than I care to recall. Twice just last week.
Typically I install a grade 5 bolt, lock washer and nut vs. swedging in a new pin.
