Topic: 1937 tapered water pump

  observation: housing where tapered water pump fits into has a groove as if an o'ring should be there! yes or no. unable to find any dwg to clarify.

  I guess your in reference to the 60 HP engine.
For 37, 52-8541-A, gasket (water pump body inner)
and 52-8542-A, gasket (water pump body)
You have to use the image for the 38 water pump.

  yes it's 60hp. this observation is a groove inside the housing where the pump enters. on the 37 engine where I removed the pumps it appears that if an o'ring were used it would seal against the tapered part on the pump.not sure that an o'ring is supposed to be in there!

  Yes you are correct. A o ring does go in the groove.
