Topic: correct vent window rubber that fits 46 coupe

Fred O    -- 11-12-2014 @ 9:02 AM
recently acquired a 46, super deluxe business coupe, with columbia overdrive...a great car, have a few issues to make it suit me. The vent window rubber inserts don't fit right. There is a gap, between the frame of the vent window and the rubber lip you can see through. Not sure if this was quality done, or a cheap fix...but am asking if the Steele, or Bob Drake pre-molded rubber for the vent windows are a better fit? Thanks for your help...new to this forum.

Secondly, am wondering if someone could tell me a reliable place to get some "touch up" DYNAMIC MAROON, used in '46... thanks, Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Congratulations - nice looking coupe. I have a maroon '47 sedan coupe and apparently the same air-gap between the door frame and vent rubber gasket. I could slightly see daylight through the gap and could hear air whistling at higher speeds. I think the rubber simply shrunk with age.

I was going to replace the gasket but to match it apparently one has to drill-out and replace the two original rivets that act as pivots on the hinges. I instead inserted compressible foam rubber tube insulation into the void in the gasket and sealed both outside edges of the gasket with black silicone caulking. The repair is not obvious and is much less time consuming and expensive.

Your best source for matching touchup paint is a paint dealer with the camera to match paints. They get very close and usually will adjust the color slightly to match.

A few detail shops also do color matching.
