Topic: 50 Ford engine rebuild

I'm having the engine in my 50 Ford convt. rebuilt. I was planning on having a 4" SCT crank put in. The shop doing the rebuild uses Eagle Performance products. I would like to know the pro's and cons comparing SCAT to Eagle Performance.

SCAT tends to be expensive. Cranks cost different prices whether they are cast or forged, but cost is not always an indicator of quality. Street use is quite different than racing, and parts are priced accordingly. There are still a lot of good used 4" Merc cranks out there, too.

Thanks Supereal! This is strictly for street machine driving with a stock cam. Just want a little more torque. I would like to find a good Merc crank. I will have to do some more research.

We recently built an engine for a customer's '50 Mercury, and needed a replacement crankshaft, as it was too badly damaged to regrind. We have a contact here in Iowa that has good used four inch cranks. You can leave me a personal message for the info.
