My block has a crack somewhere around an exhaust valve. Leaking all my coolant out the exhaust. Anybody have one ?

You may have a babbit block, or the later version with insert bearings. If you have the former, I'd look for the later version. The transition was made in mid '36. If the crack leaks so much you lose lots of coolant, it is likely the block is beyond repair. We pin lots of cracks at our shop if the crack is small to save the block because they are getting scarce and pricey.

For Super I have a 59A block with 2 similar cracks. They are slightly over 1/4" long and were detected by the machinist's MagnaFlux.He is relucatent to build the engine with these cracks. He suggested I find someone who can weld cast iron. So far no luck. Would you please explain how you "pin" the cracks? I have not heard of this procedure.

Here is a link to stitching a cast iron head. It is not a very good example,but it will show how it is done. http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/transmission-drivetrain/mopp-1203-cast-iron-cylinder-head-crack-repair/ I would not try to weld the cast iron block. It is a difficult and expensive process compared to stitching the cracks and you run the risk of further damage to the block. If I find a newer block - later 30's or early 40's - will my 36 starter, transmission, coil, intake and exhaust manifolds work?
