Topic: Trunk seal installation

Not sure which direction the trunk seal should go on my '40 coupe. I am installing a non-bonded seal with the thin "flap" on one edge. I have seen images with the flap towards the inside, covering the metal ridge going around the trunk opening, but also have seen the flap towards the outside direction leaving the metal ridge exposed. Should have purchased a bonded seal, then it could only go on one way. Thanks in advance for guidance.

The "little" flap of rubber gets glues over the lip surrounding the opening for your trunk lid.
The "large" part of the rubber is downward of that lip. In other words, the large part will fit within the cavity below the small metal lip. Make sense? If not, let me know and I'll see if I have a photo somewhere.

Thanks, Mike. That makes the most sense.

Be careful not to stretch the trunk seal as you cement it into place, or it won't seal properly. If you have an excess when you reach the place where the ends meet, you probably didn't do it right, and may be able to reposition it if the cement hasn't fully dried. non bonded seals usually end up having to be cemented, anyway. Don't ask how I know this!
