We have a 4 speed tranny with ford flat head 6 cylinder engine mounted in our old (non-ford) fire truck. How can we identify this tranny?
Casting number: OIT 7006

The tranny has a PTO.

Where can we purchase a speedo drive for the tranny?

Ford Industrial engine #7HNN-5A *378*
Also stamped on the engine plate in far bottom right corner is: T9 T

Thank you for your response.

the case is a 1940 (O1T) but these cases were used until 1947 or later. Try Joblot in NY for the speed ometer drive, which comes out of the rear of the case. 6 Cylinder engines came out in mid to late 1941 production, Ford changed the 1941 grill top plate to accomodate this change.

You will have to determine the rear end ratio to know which drive gear is correct. Truck transmissions were made by several vendors, so you will also need to know that info. Fire trucks are a particular example, as the transmission was often adapted to allow running the pump(s). If the engine did come from an industrial application, be sure there is a drive port available.
