Topic: 2014 Central Meet - Springfield by the Numbers

Kens 36    -- 08-25-2014 @ 2:21 PM
Several have asked for numbers, so here we go.

The 2014 Central National Meet had 215 registrations (after dropping all cancellations and no-shows). There were 408 people in attendance. About 13% of those present were attending their first National Meet! We were pleased with the large number of members who signed up to be novice judges.

Some attendees registered vehicles but did not bring them. There were a total of 149 vehicles on the Concourse:

Concourse Division - 19
Dearborn Division - 17
Dearborn Emeritus Division - 19
Rouge Division - 19
Touring Division - 44
Touring A Division - 22
Display Class - 9

124 trophies were awarded

Attendance at meals/events:
Welcome Dinner - 277
Ladies Luncheon - 91
Picnic Buffet following Route 66 driving tour - 261
Awards Banquet - 279

Driving tour to Lincoln Presidential Museum - 174
Bus tours to Lincoln sites - 139
Bus tours to Dana Thomas House - 90

Attendance at post-concourse President Lincoln and First Lady Presentation - over 300

The Flathead Ignition seminar presented by Jim Linder was attended by over 250

Sincere thanks to all 408 V-8ers who made this possible, to the outstanding staff of the Crowne Plaza, and to the Red Badge Brigade - the team of Northern Illinois Regional Group volunteers who tirelessly gave of their time and enthusiasm to make this meet happen.

  Jeff,

Carolyn spent countless hours doing the chocolates. Were they cool or what? ...and yummy too!

Hi Everyone, yes they were cool and yummy.

I managed a photo before they were gone. The lighting is a little messed up. This is a white chocolate in a silver wrapper.

I wonder how many did not eat the chocolate just to save the V-8!

TonyM    -- 08-28-2014 @ 9:06 AM
  Where were the chocolates?

I did not find one in my bag. I went to the Welcome Dinner, didn't see them there either.

Where did I miss them?

Great meet Ken. My car was one of the no shows as it broke down about 120 miles north in Sheldon Ill. Coil failure and the back up coil was bad also.
Fine folks in Sheldon stored the car while I hitched a ride with two other guys from RG126, Roger Jackson and Frank Kope.
I did get to see the show on Wednesday morning before returning to pickup the car.
Skip Haney is rebuilding both coils. Lesson learned, be sure your spare parts are in good shape.

Skip Haney's rewound coils are definitely the way to go. I wouldn't leave home without one on my car's distributor and another in my spare parts box. I may never need that spare unless I forget and leave the ignition switch on which can cause them to overheat and fail.

Well, I got my car going and the fuel issues seem to be resolved--two weeks too late for the meet. One of those "hard luck" stories Ken Bounds was talking about. Not as bad as the guy whose car conked out 100 miles away from Springfield, but hard luck just the same.

John, I'll be putting the correct 78-9600 Air Cleaner that you sold me on top of my "new" 97 carb.

TomO, Thanks again for your great contribution to the success of the meet, and the great time I had attending.

The photos are priceless. At the awards banquet I look totally clueless!

This was one of the most impressive cars at the meet! I think I know who owns it.

And one of my great buddy JM! We were both lucky enough to win one of the few 'free night at the hotel' scratch-off prizes then went and won a $100 bill! The scratch-off was another of the very innovative ideas we learned at the meet.

  Jeff,

I had a great time at the meet, taking the photos was a great opportunity to meet most of the owners and their cars. I had a lot of fun going around and taking the snapshots of people enjoying themselves. I made a lot of new friends at the meet.

My partner in taking photos, Jeff Trilling took most of the car photos and I took most of the snapshots. Jeff put together the slide show for the Awards and did a great job.

Thanks for the compliment on my Lincoln, but most of the credit goes to the previous owners who kept it in such great shape.
