When I purchased my 35 Ford the gentleman who sold me the car told me he had a 3.54 installed yet when ever I go over 45 MPH the car is very noisy and screams, can this be possible? I did have the car up to 60 MPH x my GPS. Thanks s.

3.54 should be pretty quiet at that speed. 4.11 are mainly in 35-36 cars they would be noisey. ken ct.

My '47 with 3.78 gears turns under 2,200 rpm at a GPS verified 45 mph. If you had 3.54 gears you would be even quieter with lower rpms that this, so as ken ct. says you very likely have 4.11 gears. A temporary tach/engine analyzer placed on the seat beside you and wired to your coil will help confirm that the 'screaming' is simply higher rpm engine compartment noise and hopefully not something more concerning. I'd confirm this (via this method in tandem with a gear calculator) before cruising for any length of time at 50-55 or higher.

Btw - my son took the tach/rpm and GPS readings while I drove.
