Topic: spring replacement

  Looking to replace old springs (front and rear). Never done this work. Need pointers as to the proper method of removal and reinstall of units,SAFELY /shackle alignment/installation/any other pointers or concerns I should be aware of.

  Place the frame on good stands. Buy, rent, or borrow a Port-A-Power tool to spread the spring(s) until tension is removed from the shackle bars. Remove the bars. Unbolt the U-bolt that holds the spring to the cross member. Lower the spring. If you are installing a new spring, be sure the center bolt head is turned so the edges of the head are parallel to the spring so it will fit in the hole in the cross member. Raise the spring, being sure the center bolt is in the recess, replace the U-bolts. Put the Port-A-Power in position between the spring eyes and spread the spring until the shackle bars can be easily installed. Always be sure the Port-A-Power is securely placed between the spring ends, as springs contain lots of stored power when the curve is pushed out.
