differential pinion gears with 11 teeth match with axles with 16 teeth?
differential pinion gears with 12 teeth match with
axles with 18 teeth?
Thats what I have and wondering why. Thanks

The pinion must match the ring gear, and the axles must match the gears in the differential spider. The eleven tooth pinion is used with a 39 tooth ring gear for a ratio of 3:54. I'm not sure what a 12 tooth pinion fits, as most common passenger cars are either 9 or 11. My best guess is that it is a truck part.

I too have never heard of a 12 tooth pinion gear.
Not even for a truck application...

Sorry Supereal, didn't make myself clear. I was counting the teeth on those little gears thatslide on the spider. One set of four has 11 teeth and the other set of four has 12 teeth each.

Somwhere there in 38 the spider gears and axles changed tooth count (spider gears from 12 teeth to 11 & 18 tooth axle to 16). It was about the same time as the 10-spline pinion changed to the 6-spline type. The different tooth counts are not interchangeable with each other but they are interchangable as spider gear/axle sets in a complete rear axle assembly. The V8 differential carriers are all the same from 32 to 48.
