Topic: Help finding Horn Relay

I have a bum horn relay on my '39 Deluxe. Push the horn button but all I get is a buzz from the relay and no horn sound. Need to locate a 6V horn relay ASAP. Got any ideas on vendor with a quick turn around? The closer to Chicago the better. Thanks

  Steve,

I think that I have a spare horn relay and am located in Palatine, IL.

Before purchasing a relay, you might try removing the cover and clean the contacts. The cover on the original type relays comes off very easily by bending the tabs that hold the cover to the relay. Buy some tuner cleaner and lubricant at Radio Shack and spray the contacts with it. Operate the relay several times to clean the contacts. You can also use a piece of a brown paper shopping bag between the points to clean them.

Make sure that the points open and close before you put the cover back on.

It is also possible that there is a short between the relay and the horns. Disconnect the wire to the horns from the relay. If the buzzing stops, but the relay clicks when the button is pushed, it is likely a bare spot on the wire is grounding., causing the voltage to drop and the relay to release.
