Topic: 1939 Service Manual Recommendation

Classic1    -- 06-19-2014 @ 1:20 PM
I'm, looking for a good, comprehensive service manual for a 1939 DeLuxe. I've seen a number of things out there and already have the '38-'39 book that the club sells. It's a wonderful book but I am looking for more of an actual service manual. Reproductions are fine for my needs. I welcome any suggestions.

The 38-39 ford book is great for the "concourse" crowd. Not much info in the "service" area. I was disappointed in the book for this short coming.
Try this link to a repro service manual site.
Good Luck.

You won't find any better than a MoToRs Manual. You can find them on Ebay for about 20 bucks. Get one that was published no later than about 1951, as the early information goes missing in the later editions.

Another very good all purpose repair manual is the Canadian book. It is available from most vendors. Ford didn't publish a shop manual until the late forties, preferring service "bulletins". These are available in book form from C&G and other sources. When used in conjunction with the "green book"' the master parts manual, these books are a necessary library for those new to the hobby, as well as more seasoned DIY owners.

The reprints of the 39-48 shop manual and the Service Letters will give you a good start. Both are available on CD as well as hard copy at most of the vendors.
