  These are usually missing on most flatheads, I have not been able to find repros. How important are they? Do they do any good other than giving you a faster warm up?

  There were two main units, usually the type with the lever and bimetal spring, and the"duckbill" kind which fit inside the exhaust. The purpose was to force additional exhaust thru the passage under the carb to aid warmup. Most became balky due to rust and the heat/cool cycles and were removed. Unless you operate your car in very cold weather, you won't miss one.
