Topic: Todays pump gas?

Lenny    -- 05-06-2014 @ 4:37 PM
I am now using ethanol free gas. It's high test fuel
but no ethanol added.
Some club members are using the enzyme fuel additive that displaces ethanol.
I'd like to know what's best.
Thanks

Here, in Iowa, we have three grades of gas from the pump. There is the cheapest, 87 octane gasohol, 89 octane gasohol, and 91 octane without alcohol, which we use in old cars, lawn mowers, etc. the price differential is thirty cents on the gasohol, with the non alcohol gas fifty cents more expensive than the 87 grade. We use the non alcohol in our shop trucks and our own vehicles mostly because of the better mileage. Actually, most gas now has at least some alcohol in it that was in the transport, pump, or pump hose.

In eastern NY State, the non-ethanol fuel is usually 91 octane; some locations (marinas) sell it in mid-grade. In my '35, I advanced the ignition timing to the maximum: no pinging. Have you checked puregas.com for stations selling non-ethanol in your state?

  WNY....

91 in the Ford with MMO.
91 in the Burb tow vehicle, when available.
91 in the boat
87 in the daily driver.
